Our Technology

Our Eyecare Kids practices have invested in a comprehensive suite of equipment in order to provide you and your family the best possible care. With this advanced equipment we ensure a thorough, accurate and comprehensive examination to help detect potential issues early.

Medmont Topographer (E300)

  • Maps the shape of the front surface of your eye (cornea).
  • Used for fitting contact lenses, especially orthokeratology (Ortho-K).
  • Helps diagnose and monitor keratoconus, corneal irregularities, and other corneal conditions.
  • Assists in assessing dry eye related to corneal surface changes.

OCT Nidek Duo RS-330 / RS-3000

  • Takes detailed 3D scans of the retina and optic nerve.
  • Helps diagnose and monitor conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
  • Detects early retinal changes that can’t be seen in a standard eye exam.
  • Used to track progression of eye disease over time.

Eye-Light IPL + LLLT Mask

  • Uses light therapy to treat dry eye disease caused by Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
  • Helps improve oil gland function to stabilise the tear film.
  • Reduces eyelid inflammation and symptoms like burning, redness, and irritation.
  • Can assist in managing blepharitis and rosacea-related eye issues.

Humphrey Field Analyser 3

  • Measures your peripheral (side) vision.
  • Used to diagnose and monitor glaucoma.
  • Helps detect visual field loss from conditions like stroke, optic nerve diseases, and neurological conditions.
  • Helps monitor overall eye health, especially with a family history of eye disease.

Optos (P200T, Daytona Plus)

  • Takes an ultra-widefield image of the back of the eye (retina).
  • Helps detect early signs of retinal tears, retinal detachments, and holes.
  • Used to monitor diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and hypertensive changes.
  • Captures areas of the retina that are difficult to see with standard imaging.

Pachymetry

  • Measures the thickness of your cornea.
  • Important for assessing and managing glaucoma (corneal thickness affects eye pressure readings).
  • Assists in diagnosing conditions like keratoconus or corneal swelling (oedema).

Kowa Fundus Camera

  • Takes detailed photographs of the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels.
  • Helps detect and monitor diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and hypertensive changes.
  • Used to assess optic nerve health for conditions like glaucoma.
  • Allows early detection of retinal diseases and changes over time.

Lenstar Myopia

  • Measures eye length (axial length) to track childhood myopia progression.
  • Helps detect if a child’s short-sightedness is worsening.
  • Used to guide and monitor myopia control treatments such as Ortho-K, atropine, or myopia-control lenses.
  • Allows early detection of fast progression to reduce long-term risks.

Revo FC 130 (available at Hillsdale)

  • Combines the optical coherence tomographer and fundus imaging for a complete eye exam in one device.
  • Helps diagnose and monitor macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and retinal diseases.
  • Allows early detection of retinal changes that aren’t visible in a standard eye exam.
  • Tracks disease progression over time.
  • Takes clear, high-quality retinal images even with small pupils.

Optopol PTS 2000 (available at Hillsdale)

  • Maps your visual field to check central and peripheral vision.
  • Used to diagnose and monitor glaucoma and other optic nerve or neurological conditions.
  • Tracks eye and head movement for a more accurate test.
  • Can test one eye in under three minutes.

Slit Lamp

  • A microscope used to examine the front and back parts of the eye in detail.
  • Helps detect cataracts, corneal injuries, conjunctivitis, dry eye, and foreign bodies.
  • Used to monitor eye health and diagnose various anterior and posterior eye conditions.
  • Can be combined with special lenses to view the retina and optic nerve.
